Dental Lumineers/Modified Veneers

LUMINEERS are modified veneers which are placed on the front teeth, covering only the outer visible portion of the teeth or an individual tooth (just like a nail enamel) chiefly serving the purpose of esthetics to give you a beautiful and pleasing smile. It is widely used in cosmetic dentistry and has made thousands of people smile with confidence. If you have discolored teeth/tooth, stubborn stains, chipped off or worn tooth which makes you self-conscious while talking, smiling and laughing then lumineers might be the treatment option for you !

ALL ABOUT LUMINEERS

Lumineers are ultra-thin veneers (0.3mm) made up of special type of porcelain (cerinate porcelain), as they are strong enough as compared to other materials, available in various colors and translucencies to match the adjacent teeth and gives an amazing natural look. It is an ideal treatment option for minor cosmetic correction. Even mild mal-alignment, small gaps between the teeth and slight rotation of the teeth can be perfectly treated with lumineers. They need very little or no-trimming of the teeth. You can just get them in couple of days in just two or three dental visits.

In first visit ,the dentist will thoroughly examine your oral cavity by considering the periodontal status (gum examination) and the condition of the associated tooth and oral habits if any. Oral habits like clenching and night grinding (bruxism) may result in dislodging of the lumineer. If required, X-rays may be taken to rule out the bone level and quality. If everything is okay then your photo is taken so that you can compare your smile post-treatment and tooth shade is checked. Tooth shade is selected based on your skin complexion, eye and hair color. Now the tooth is preparation is done by slightly modifying or trimming, if required. Finally, the impressions of both the upper and lower jaws are taken. And that’s all for the first visit!

You do not need any temporary crown to mask the tooth as barely any trimming is done for lumineers. In second visit ,the tooth is isolated to prevent any wetting and contamination from saliva or oral fluids by placing a rubber dam .After its placement, the prepared tooth is dried, bonding agent (glue) is applied and the lumineer is placed. After it sets, the dentist will check for the tooth contacts. Now you are completely done with the smile makeover treatment. Post treatment care includes proper brushing with fluoridated toothpaste, daily flossing and mouthrinsing. Regular dental check-up every 6 months is recommended. Maintenance of oral hygiene is the key for the long term success of lumineers.
